About Our Summer Training
The Institute for Analytics and Data Science is presenting its annual Summer School bringing you 5 days of cutting-edge courses across the fields of data science, analytics and decision making.
Our Summer School provides a unique opportunity to:

immerse yourself in the topics of data science, and

network with your peers in an invaluable forum for knowledge exchange.
Whether you're interested in the curation and management of big data, advanced techniques and methods including artificial intelligence and statistical methods, or applications of big data in fields ranging from business and finance to bioinformatics, you'll find a set of relevant courses for you.

Eligibility

There are no specific eligibility requirements to book a place on the Summer School.
We welcome graduates, students, researchers and professionals in the emerging fields of big data, data science and analytics who would like to find out more or be updated on the current trends and developments in this exciting and fast-developing field.
We accept applicants from all levels and experience from around the world and offer a range of introductory and academic courses to suit your needs.
Whilst we do not restrict access to courses, when selecting the courses that make up your programme please pay attention to our recommended prerequisites. These prerequisites are stipulated to ensure that all attendees make the best out of their time with us.
If you are unsure whether a certain published course is right for you, please do not hesitate to contact us at iadssum@essex.ac.uk and a member of the IADS team will be happy to advise you on whether a course is suitable for your requirements and skillsets.
Teaching Programme
Our courses cover a wide range of topics from multiple perspectives.
Whether you’re exploring data science, or have advanced practice, we have a range of introductory and academic courses to suit your needs.
Please note that some courses may have pre-requisites, or preparation may be required before attending. All this information is detailed in the course outline which you will be able to download from the spring.
Our school provides you with invaluable practical industry experience.
Our delegates are given practical applications in their coursework using a combined theoretical and practical approach. This provides you with a unique opportunity to apply your data analytics skills in a tangible manner to gain the most understanding from your studies.
There typically 4 parallel sessions running each day, mainly six hours in length.

The University of Essex's Colchester Campus is just one hour from London and Stansted Airport, and set in over 200 acres of beautiful parkland, homes over 20 academic departments and schools.

Discount Accommodation

Delegates will be able to book accommodation on site of the Summer School at very affordable rates.
The accommodation offers your own room with exclusive en-suite facilities, linens, and shared access to a kitchen, utensils, and crockery, so you can socialise with other delegates too.
Nearby Attractions

Our Colchester campus is situated very close to the historic centre of Colchester, England's oldest recorded town where there is plenty to see.
London attractions are also only a one hour train ride away, including one of the largest shopping centres in Europe. Also an hour away is the beautiful city of Norwich.
Programme Fees
Programme fees differ depending on whether you are a University student, University staff member, or a commercial delegate.
Further discounts are available for early-bird registration, and alumni from the University of Essex.

*Please note that summer school tuition does NOT include accommodation. Please see above for the discount on campus accommodation that can be booked from March (contact the Executive Officer for more details). Meals provided include hot/cold lunches each week day (Monday-Friday) and snacks mid-morning/mid-afternoon. Aside from the Formal Dinner and the Welcome Reception delegates will be responsible for their own meals outside of these provided lunches; we recommend taking this into account when you budget for attendance. There is a Tesco located within walking/bus distance (.5 miles) from the University to purchase food and many outlets on campus for food choices.
Terms & Conditions
The IADS cancellation policy is governed by University Summer School regulation.

Cancellations made prior to 8th July 2023: an administrative charge of £50.00 or a full refund less your £50.00 non-refundable deposit payment. Cancellations made between 8th July and 22nd July 2023: A fifty percent charge or refund of fifty percent.

Cancellations made after 22nd July 2023: No refund to be made.

Registered participants with unsuccessful visa attempts will be entitled to claim a full refund.

Extenuating circumstances will also be considered at the organiser’s discretion.
